About the event

OKC Beautiful's Sustainability Social Hour is for those who love the environment and our city. Each session is centered around networking with those who have a passion for and want to learn more about environmental stewardship topics.

Each session features a conversational Q&A with a guest speaker. August features Emily Geest, Conservation Scientist with the OKC Zoo. Emily Geest is a broadly trained ecologist with a research focus on understanding how human-driven land-use change and management decisions impact insect biodiversity, particularly butterflies. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri St. Louis, her Master of Science from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and her PhD from Oklahoma State University. She is currently working as a conservation scientist at the OKC Zoo researching butterflies in urban environments. When Emily is not in the field or the lab, she volunteers for multiple organizations including Butterflies and Moths of North America as a regional coordinator and helps write butterfly species assessments for the IUCN.

The event includes a mix and mingle portion from 5:00- 5:30, then kicks off the one-hour Q&A session.

All ages are welcome! You do not have to be 21+ to attend.

Sustainability Social Hour is every second Wednesday of the month. Location changes each month. Visit www.okcbeautiful.com/sustainability-social-hour to learn more.
